PURPOSE:To exactly obtain a color killer detection signal even in operation in the high-definition monochromatic mode by outputting a color killer detection signal when a detected level is higher than a prescribed reference level. CONSTITUTION:A level detection circuit 63 to detect the level of a color signal which is made absent euring a horizontal blanking period during the very horizontal blanking period, is provided. When the level detected by the circuit 63 is higher than the prescribed reference level, a color killer detection signal is outputted. As a result, even during the operation in the high-resolution monochroma mode in which the frequency band of a modulated liminance signal includes the most parts of the frequency band of a color signal (modulated color signal), a color killer detection signal is exactly obtained.
