PURPOSE:To accurately record a high gradation continuous images at a high speed by correcting the nonlinearity of scanning beam intensity characteristic of the light emission level instruction signal pair by means of a correction table provided in addition to a semiconductor laser output stabilizing circuit. CONSTITUTION:A table generation means 70 peak-holds a measuring signal to measure the light beam intensity during a first period in which the timing of the rise of a semiconductor laser beam output generated from a test signal input is included and a second period after converging to the almost steady state, and thus measures the light beam intensity. Assuming the light beam intensity thus detected by peak-holding in the first and the second periods to be P1, P2, a correction table 40 is generated based on light intensity P3: P3=P2+ k(P1-P2)[0.0<k<1.0]. As a result, even if the gain of an APC (light output stabilization) circuit is low, a light output characteristic close to ideal characteristic can be obtained for a light emission level instruction signal prior to correction and a semiconductor laser light output.
