<p>An image signal binary encoder (K1-K4) for converting analog image signals into binary output signals, including an arithmetic circuit (4) which calculates, when a predetermined area of a matrix having m rows and n columns and containing mxn points Pa, b (a = i,---, i-m+1; b = j,---, j-n+1) is given so as to be enclosed by the points Pi, j, Pi-m+1, j, Pi, j-n+1 and Pi-m+1, j-n+1 where characters i, j, m and n denote natural numbers, respectively, an average of densities of the mxn points Pa, b by calculating, on the supposition that characters xa, b denote the densities of the mxn points Pa, b, respectively, a sum si, j of n values from xi, j to xi, j-n+1 by the equation: si, j = si, j-1 + xi, j - xi, j-n and calculating a sum Si, j of m values from si, j to si-m+1, j by the equation: Si, j = Si-1, j + si, j - si-m, j and calculating an average Ai, j of mxn values from xi, j to xi-m+1, j-n+1 by the equation: Ai, j = Si, j/(mxn) such that the analog image signals are converted into the vinary output signals by using the average Ai, j obtained by the arithmetic circuit (4). <IMAGE></p> |
