PURPOSE:To set a copying condition with high accuracy by calculating a light quantity difference in the same copy concentration from a measured characteristic data and a reference characteristic data known in advance, and adjusting the insertion quantity to an optical path of a color filter by the light quantity difference. CONSTITUTION:For instance, in case of blue, an exposure quantity EB1 corre sponding to a concentration value D1 is derived from a characteristic data 90. Subsequently, from a reference characteristic data 94 which is derived in advance, an exposure quantity EB2 to the same concentration value D1 is de rived, and its light quantity difference DELTAE1 is calculated. As for a reference characteristic data, the reflected light of a reference plate is measured by a measuring means, and the obtained blue exposure quantity, green exposure quantity and red exposure quantity go to a reference value. In such a state, the measurement is executed, while moving a yellow filter Y, a magenta filter M and a cyan filter C, respectively, and they are set to a position where the exposure quantity is increased or decreased by the light quantity difference derived previously. In such a way, a copying condition can be set with high accuracy.
