PURPOSE:To print images in a predetermined size without re-editing printing data, by contracting or enlarging figure or image data according to designated paper size, and selecting a font of an optimum size from a plurality of character fonts of different sizes. CONSTITUTION:An appropriate one of 6-point, 10-point and 12-point character fonts is selected according to a contracting or enlarging factor. If required, a 20-point character font, a 24-point character font or the like can be obtained by enlarging the 10-point character font, the 12-point character font or the like by a factor of 2 by a contracting and enlarging device 11. The character font thus obtained is imaged in a frame buffer memory 10 by a CRT-driving circuit 9. This imaging is continued until the printing data runs out. Image data thus formed in the memory 10 is outputted to a printer 13 through a printer-driving circuit 12, and is printed on a paper of a designated size.
