PURPOSE:To reduce connection loss by interposing a lens rod between the couple of rotary rods of a switching element which switches optical transmission lines by rotating the rotary rods. CONSTITUTION:The rod lens 11 where many converging lenses 12 corresponding to optical transmitting means 3, for example, on the side of the rotary rod 1 is incorporated between the rotary rods 1 and 2. Those rotary rods 1 and 2 have optical transmitting means 3, 4 and 4' formed as a single mode fiber type, and the number of optical transmitting means 4 and 4' of the rod 2 is an integral multiple (twice) of the number of optical transmitting means 3 of the rod 1. Further, the lens rod 11 is formed by using quartz glass, e.g. a base material having a squared distribution of quartz by a VAD method, charging it in a rod which is drawn and bored, and drawing them in one body. Consequently, the connection loss between both rotary rods is eliminated as much as possible. |
