6446-337 A hot standby communications system is described which has a simple construction and yet allows a minimum of deterioration in communications quality to occur despite the distribution of some of the received power to standby equipment. The system of the present invention includes switching circuitry interposed between two communication equipments to branch the received input signal at two different powers. The greater of the two powers is routed to one of the communications equipments which is to be used as the regular equipment with no regard to whether or not it was initially the regular equipment. The other power is routed to the other communications equipment which is to be used as standby equipment with no regard to whether or not it was initially the standby equipment.
