PURPOSE:To obtain a press forming die excellent in wear resistance and good in die releasing by coating the surface of a base metal by ceramics. CONSTITUTION:The oxide, nitride or carbide of the element selected from among silicon, titanium, tangsten and group III elements, or mixture thereof or hard carbon, etc., are used for the ceramic, which is formed by making a raw material gas plasmatic under pressure reduction. The forming die consisting of a metallic base metal 10 is placed on a pan 31 with its forming face upward. The heater 12 of a resistance heating wire is arranged on the under side of the pan 31 to heat by being fed by being connected to a power source 13. This heat heats the base metal 10 by transferring the pan 31. A high frequency current is impressed on a reaction chamber 1 to cause a plasma discharging between the base metal 10 and reaction chamber 1 and to subject to coating the ceramic with the components in the raw material gas as the component element on the forming face of the base metal 10.
