PURPOSE:To obtain a composite metallic material having beautiful appearance and excellent corrosion resistance, weatherability and workability by providing a plating layer consisting of tin, etc., on the surface of an ion material and providing a plating layer consisting of lead, etc., thereon. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the iron material is prepd. by subjecting the surface to degreasing, pickling or strike plating, etc., of copper, etc. The above- mentioned metallic material is obtd. by providing a tin or tin-lead alloy layer by electroplating in a known plating bath on the above-mentioned material, then immersing the material into a prescribed aq. flux soln., then immersing the material in a hot dip coating cell consisting of lead or lead-tin alloy and adequately adjusting the thickness of the plating layer by air blow. The content of tin in the electroplating layer is preferably >=60wt.% and the content of lead in the hot dip coating layer >=85%; further, the iron material is preferably a stainless steel. This metallic material has excellent appearance, corrosion resistance, weatherability, and workability and is, therefore, applicable to building materials such as roofs and members of chemical apparatus and mechanical devices.
