<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for physiologically active substance without causing the problems such as removal of compounds having unnecessary stearic configuration, by stereospecifically oxidizing 2-cyclopentene-1-methanol, reacting with an organic selenium and oxidizing the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:2-Cyclopentene-1-methanol is stereospecifically oxidized with a peroxide in the presence of a metal complex compound catalyst preferably molybdenum hexacarbonyl/t-butyl hydroperoxide, etc. The hydroxyl group of the oxidation product is protected and the resultant 2beta,3beta-epoxycyclopenetane-1beta- methanol derivative of formula I (R is OH-protecting group) is reacted with an organic selenium compound in the presence of a reducing agent such as sodium borohydride. The amount of the organic selenium compound is nearly equivalent to the compound of formula I and the reducing agent is used in excess. The reaction product is oxidized with an oxidizing agent to obtain the objective compound of formula II.</p> |
