PURPOSE:To utilize the on-hook function effectively by providing an on-hook connection function and a monitor function so as to attain a series of control such that from the confirmation of the state of line to the transition to the transmission/reception mode while staying the on-hook state. CONSTITUTION:A facsimile equipment 1 consists of an on-hook connection function comprising an on-hook detector 3, an automatic receiver-transmitter 4 and a CPU 12, a voice output device 6 as a monitor function and a RAM 14 or the like. The required processing value for the communication mode transition in the on-hook state is subject to arithmetic operation by the transmission/reception of data with the RAM 14 and reading various information outputted from each building block at the CPU 12. A control signal obtained as a result is outputted to a line connection section 10 to change over the contacts and the line state is monitored by the device 6 and the line is switched from the telephone set to the equipment 1. In applying the dialing via the device 4, the mode is transited to the facsimile communication mode while staying in the on-hook state by a prescribed key operation to utilize the on-hook function effectively.
