PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer with high stereoregularity by polymerization of an alpha-olefin in the presence of a catalyst prepared by prepolymerization of the alpha-olefin in the presence of a catalyst formed from a highly active Ti solid catalyst component, organometallic compound catalytic component and organic halogen compound catalytic component. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer can be obtained by polymerization of an alpha-olefin in the presence of a catalyst prepared by prepolymerization of the alpha-olefin in the presence of a catalyst formed from (AS) a highly active Ti solid catalyst component with Mg, Ti and halogen as the essential components (e.g. as the essential components, a Mg compound such as dimethylmagnesium or MgCl2, a Ti compound such as TiCl4 and a halogen atom such as chlorine), (B) an organometallic compound catalytic component with the metal being group I, II or III metal of the periodic table [e.g., triethylaluminum, LiAl(C2 H5)4], and (C) an organic halogen compound catalytic component (e.g., methyl chloride, hexyl bromide).
