PURPOSE:To make a bactericidal lamp device with multiple bactericidal lamps small-sized by connecting multiple bactericidal lamps with the relatively low lamp voltage in series and lighting them with one ballast. CONSTITUTION:Since multiple bactericidal lamps 1, 1 are lighted by one ballast 3, the ballast is made small-sized and lightweight as a whole. If the distance between electrodes 11, 12 of the bactericidal lamp 1 is made 14mm for He as the main gas, 15mm for Ne, 13mm for Ar, 17mm for Kr, and 18mm or less for Xe, the anode voltage drop becomes zero, and the low lamp voltage and the high efficiency can be attained. Such a bactericidal lamp has the low lamp voltage and discharge start voltage, thus multiple bactericidal lamps can be connected and lighted in series. Accordingly, a bactericidal lamp device with multiple bactericidal lamps can be made small-sized.
