PURPOSE:To realize higher efficiency, miniaturization and lightening of the title machine by arranging toroidal drive windings in an annular space between stator magnetic poles and by opposing a cage rotor to pole pieces of annular stator magnetic poles via air gap. CONSTITUTION:An induction motor 10 is equipped with end brackets 12, 14, first and second stators 16, 18 and a cage rotor 20. The first and second stators 16, 18 are equipped with first phase and second phase toroidal drive windings 28, 30, respectively. Magnetic fluxes generated by the toroidal drive windings 28, 30 are concentrated on annular stator magnetic poles 32, 34, 36, 38, while a cage rotor 20 is opposed to pole pieces 32b, 34b, 36b, 38b of the annular stator magnetic poles 32, 34, 36, 38 via air gap.
