PURPOSE:To accurately detect speed of a rotating body by keeping constant the distance from the external surface of a detection ring attached to the rotating shaft through adjustment of the thickness of a spacer to be inserted between the case and the magnetoresistance element fitting surface of a permanent magnet as well as the thickness of the case. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic sensor B consisting of indium antimony (InSb) is provided to a permanent magnet C and is housed within a case F through a spacer E so that it is provided opposed to a detection ring A. Here, if a gap length between the external surface of case F and protruding part of gear of detection ring A is defined as G0, length to the surface of permanent magnet C from the external surface of case is G1, the length G=G0+G1 is kept constant. Namely, thickness of case F and spacer E is compensated depending on the size of speed detector in the stationary side of magnetic sensor B and permanent magnet C. Thereby, the magnetic flux density varies depending on size difference of speed detector and generation of error in detection of rotating speed can be prevented.
