PURPOSE:To produce silicon carbide powder in high yield by burning reducing gas which has been utilized for the reduction and carbonization of SiO after recovering the gas from a reaction chamber, and prompting the carbonization reaction by heating the reaction chamber with combustion gas at high temp. produced by the combustion of the reducing gas. CONSTITUTION:A reaction chamber 12 and a heating chamber 13 separated by heat exchanging partition walls 11 are constructed in a housing 1. Reducing gas contg. microfine carbon or carbonaceous product 4 is introduced into the reaction chamber 12 from a burner 6 continuously, and the gas is discharged simultaneously. The discharged reducing gas is introduced into the heating chamber 13 through a gas duct 8, where the gas is burnt after mixing with combustion air 5, and the reducing gas in the reaction chamber 12 is heated by the produced combustion gas at high temp. through the heat exchanging partition walls 11. At the same time, fine pulverous or gaseous SiO or a material forming SiO 3 is supplied continuously to the reaction chamber 12 where SiC powder is obtd. by carbonizing SiO to SiC. |
