PURPOSE:To enable the volume of compression space to be large increased with no decrease of strength in the root part of a lap, by providing a stepped notch in a point end side surface of the lap which approaches or comes into contact with an end plate of the other scroll. CONSTITUTION:A fixed scroll 13 and a turning scroll 14 provide in their laps 17, 22 stepped notches 28, 29 being mutually fitted over the total periphery in a point end side surface approaching end plates 15, 21 of the other scroll. In this way, narrowing width of the laps 17, 22 brought into contact with each other, refrigerating ability improves by large increasing the volume of compression space 24. Further the laps 17, 22, which form the point end side to narrow its width preventing a root part from changing its width, are prevented from easily flexing even if bending moment by compressing pressure acts in the time of compression.
