PURPOSE:To make adjustment at every track constitution and the switching of a switch unnecessary ad to surely perform a processing, by providing an identifier which represents the track constitution on an optical card itself, and reading it automatically at the time of recording and/or reproducing a bit of information. CONSTITUTION:The recording of the bit of information on the information recording area 4 of each track on the optical card 1 is performed by modulating a recording data from a memory 11 at a modulation circuit 12, controlling a laser driving circuit 13, and increasing the sensitivity of the output light of a semiconductor laser in an optical unit 14 more than that of the recording material of the optical card. Reproduction is performed by converting the output signal from the optical unit 14 to a binary reproducing signal at a signal processing circuit 16 after amplifying by a pre-amplifier 15, and storing a demodulated data in a sector buffer memory 11 after demodulating the above reproducing signal at a demodulation circuit 17. Prior to the recording and the reproduction of those information, an address information part 3 is reproduced. A track number and the identifier of the track constitution are recognized by transferring the demodulated data from the demodulation circuit 17 to an address information recognition circuit 18 by a selector not shown in figure, and the constitution of the track to be recorded and reproduced is discriminated, and following recording and reproduction operations are controlled.
