In spark-emission spectral analysis, several analyses are regularly carried out consecutively at different points in the specimen in order to establish whether the homogeneity of the specimen material is adequate by comparing the individual analyses and then to calculate the mean concentration value from the individual analyses. For each individual analysis, a single spark sequence is used in which the analytically utilised radiation times are in a ratio of about 1 to 20 to the unutilized dark times. The purpose of the novel spark-emission spectrometer system is to accelerate and simplify the multiple analysis of a specimen. In the sparking stand, a plurality of spark gaps are operated alongside one another in a time-interlaced manner so that the individual analyses of a multiple analysis proceed, so to speak, in parallel. The spark gaps radiate in a time-interlaced manner into the same light tube or share the light tube of the spectrometer. A plurality of spectrometers of this type can be connected to the same sparking stand. The shortening of the analytical time depends on the need for multiple analyses. Two to four individual analyses are regularly necessary. Accordingly, the analysis time is reduced by half or to a quarter. The analytical capacity of the system is increased reciprocally.
