A supermarket trolley (1) can be stacked with the end of one fitting inside the frame of the one in front. A shelf (30) for carrying large articles is mounted behind the trolley basket (25). This shelf is supported at one end on a swinging arm (31) which has its lower end pivoted to the trolley frame so that it can swing about a horizontal axis at right angles to the direction of travel. The other end of the shelf slides in a support (52) which is also pivoted to the trolley.
