Method for controlling the solidification and cooling conditions for cast iron castings
摘要
Cooling blocks (2) are employed as cooling elements for controlled cooling of a cast-iron melt or casting (1). As an additional component in a jacket (3) of high thermal conductivity, these blocks contain a material (4) which melts or solidifies between 650 and 800@C. The heat of fusion of the material (4) additionally absorbed by this component of the cooling block (2) accelerates the cooling of the cast-iron melt and of the casting (1) in the overheating and solidification range. The heat of solidification given off by the fused component (4) - aluminium or a copper/tin alloy for example - during the process of further cooling delays the cooling of the casting (1) in the eutectoid transformation range at about 690 to 750@C and therefore makes possible the formation of a ferritic structure in the casting (1). <IMAGE>
