The invention relates to a perforating device which, as well as being suitable for independent use, is clamped into the suspension clips of a letter file and the like and is therefore immediately available whenever perforated sheets of writing paper etc. are to be filed. The perforating device which, in accordance with its region of application, is to some extent smaller than current perforating devices, is provided with a clamping rail, has a curved pressing projection for manual operation of the tapping clip and is furthermore characterised by a mount for accommodating a pencil-like writing implement of any kind. Displacement of all the documents etc. contained in the letter file up to the normal height, for example, from the right to the left half of the letter file can continue to be carried out without difficulty, in so far as despite a slight loss of space caused by the perforating device which is situated on the rear of the letter file in the folded condition, no space is taken up in the clip reception area. Furthermore, perforating operations can also be carried out simply by the exertion of pressure on the bottom lid when the device is in this position.
