PURPOSE:To manufacture a fiber reinforcement-metal power composite body in which a fiber reinforcement is not unevenly distributed but uniformly dispersed, by filtering a composite slurry prepared by mixing and agitating a mixed slurry of fiber reinforcement and organic solvent and a metal powder so as to remove an undisentangled aggregate. CONSTITUTION:A reinforcement 1 in short-fiber state, such as whisker of SiC or Si3N4, etc., and an organic solvent 2 such as ethanol, etc., are placed in a mixing agitating machine 3, where vibration with ultrasonic frequency is applied by means of ultrasonic vibrator 4 and agitation is also applied by means of an agitator 5, so that a mixed slurry 6 in which the reinforcement 1 in moxa-like short-fiber state is disentangled and dispersed in the organic solvent is formed. Subsequently, this mixed slurry 6 and a powder 7 of light metals such as Al, Ti, Mg, etc., or alloys thereof are charged into an agitating machine 8, so that a composite slurry 9 of the fiber reinforcement and the metal powder 7 which are entangled into a solution by means of an agitator 5a and an ultrasonic vibrator 4a is formed. This slurry 9 is fed to a tank filter 10, where an undisentangled fiber reinforcement remaining in the composite slurry is removed by means of a filter 11. The resulting composite slurry 9a is a homogeneous slurry in which disentangled fiber reinforcement and metal powder are uniformly mixed and dispersed into the organic solvent, so that a raw material for the fiber reinforcement-metal powder composite body can be obtained.
