Tuyere for shaft furnaces

The invention relates to a tuyere for shaft furnaces, in particular blast furnaces or hot-blast cupolas, with a base portion and an inner and outer shell starting from the latter, which are complemented by a front portion joining them to give a double-walled hollow body, whose cavity, formed between the inner and outer shell, carries in operation a coolant flow which is directed towards the front portion. In order to obtain a reliably long service life of the tuyeres, the outer shell 3 is formed cylindrically or only slightly conically inside a first base pipe 5 which adjoins the base 1 and is still surrounded by the furnace wall even after advanced wear of the lining of the furnace, while a front pipe 6, which adjoins the base pipe and whose length is at least 20% of that of the base pipe 5, has a pronounced conical form. This effects not only intensification of the water cooling in the front region, but quantities of impending burden and splashing slag are diverted in the free-standing region of the conical front pipe, and growing skulls are, on contraction due to cooling, diverted to the front region, without being able to effect damage and deformation of the front pipe. <IMAGE>
