The invention specifies a method and a device for carrying out the method, which permits production of a noble metal casting in dentistry with the use of any type of crucible and under an inert gas, preferably a forming gas. The device which can be subsequently built into existing equipment comprises simple components and a pivotable arm for supply of the inert gas inside the casting vessel.
