MIXTURE OF SULFUR-MODIFIED AND UNMODIFIED COPOLYETHER GLYCOLS AND POLYURETHANES PREPARED THEREFROM

A copolyether glycol modified to contain 1-25 wt.% of gps. (I) of formula -OCH(R)CH2SCH2CH(R)- in their polymer chains is claimed (where R is H, 1-3C alkyl or phenyl and the O atom is linked to H or C atom). A mixt. of unmodified copolyether glycol and 0.4-20 wt. % of the modified copolyether glycol and a polyurethane comprising the reaction product of the modified glycol cpd., organic polyisocyanate and chain extender are also claimed. The modified copolyether glycol has improved resistance to degradation by heat and oxygen and to acid catalysed depolymerisation. It acts as a stabiliser against the degradation of the polyether chains.
