PURPOSE:To ensure the back-up operation with use of a compact and inexpensive auxiliary power supply by using a dynamic RAM having small power consumption to form a main body part of a memory device. CONSTITUTION:The memory device is equipped with a dynamic RAM 11 having a refresh function using a CAS-before-RAS, a main power supply circuit 14 which feeds the RAM 11 in a normal working state, and an auxiliary power supply circuit 15 which feeds the RAM 11 in a back-up working state. A remote controlled CPU 16 having a clock generating function produces a clock signal in a back-up working state while receiving the supply of power from the circuit 15. A strobe control circuit 17 transmits both CAS and RAS signals to be supplied to the RAM 11 as they are in a normal working state and produces these CAS and RAS signals from the clock signals supplied from the CPU 16 to give them to the RAM 11.
