In order to achieve optimum cooling of the web between two valves, preferably exhaust valves and at the same time a problem-free manufacturing of the cylinder head, two cooling water-carrying bores (9, 10) are provided in the area of the water jacket (7), which bores, viewed in the direction of the cylinder axis (1'), form an X, the area of the closest proximity of the two bores (9, 10) being situated in the web (6) between the two exhaust ports (2) or the exhaust valves, and the two bores (9, 10) on the one hand being externally closed and each connected by way of a bore (12 and 13) to the cooling jacket of the cylinder block, and on the other hand opening into the water jacket (7) in the area of the inlet valve or inlet valves or inlet ports (13) approximately at the same height.
