PURPOSE:To measure and display the quality of a transmission line without interruption of line by sending a test pattern to an idle part of a transmission data and measuring the bit error rate at the reception side. CONSTITUTION:Test patterns 34,35 generated from a test pattern generating section 32 are sent to an interblock of data transmission caused when the total quantity of the data sent on a high speed data channel 14 in the unit time is smaller than the transmission speed of the high speed data channel. Thus, a bit error rate measurement and transmission quality display section 33 at the reception side receives the test pattern to measure the bit error rate and processes it to display BER, EFS, %EFS and EFDS.
