PURPOSE:To manufacture a colored stainless steel having an oxide film combining superior adhesive strength with high degree of blackness, by subjecting a stainless steel containing specific amounts of Ti to heating treatment under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:At the time of heating a stainless steel with 0.1-1.5wt.% Ti content, heating is carried out under the conditions within a quadrangle enclosed with lines connecting points A(975 deg.C, 3min), B(1,150 deg.C, 3min), C(800 deg.C, 1,200min), and D(800 deg.C, 120min) in a graph with heating time (min) on the vertical axis and heating temp. ( deg.C) horizontally. In this way, the stainless steel product having a thin, strong, and attractive black surface can be obtained.
