PURPOSE:To simplify operation and to check the position of an original by a simple constitution by displaying the position of the original set up on an original platen glass on the outside of a machine by the rear face reflection of at least one mirror constituting an optical system. CONSTITUTION:The original position checking device 15 consists of a 2nd mirror 4 to be used in common with the optical system 2, a monitor mirror 16, a window part 17 formed on the upper face of a body frame, and a display plate 18 formed immediately over the 2nd mirror 4. In order to check the position of an original, the 2nd mirror 4 is moved immediately under the leading edge part D1 of the original D set up on the original platen glass 10. At that time, the leading edge part D1 of the original is displayed on the upper part of the outside of the machine from the window part 17 through the monitor mirror 16 by the rear face reflection of the 2nd mirror 4 and the position is checked by an operator. Scales indicating copying size such as A4 and B4 are written in the display plate 18 so as to be functioned as indexes when the operator checks the position of the original.
