PURPOSE:To omit the use of a directory from a calling system as much as possible by supplying a destination address to a relay system if the destination system belongs to other switched networks. CONSTITUTION:A relay system 2 calls as required a directory service system 4B to accept a concrete subnetwork address with respect to a destination system 4C and interrupts a call toward a switched network 1-1. When a value usable for the call is included at the time of receiving the destination address by the calling system 3, its value is extracted and utilized and the system 3 communicates directly with the destination system 4A. If not usable, a subnetwork address is obtained to the system 2. Then the system 3 gives the destination with respect to, e.g., the system 4C to the system 2. In this case, the system 2 relays the call toward the switched network 1-1.
