PURPOSE:To make a device small without lowering the operating efficiency by a method wherein an electric charge is excited inside a semiconductor substrate after the light coming from a subject has been illuminated, this electric charge is retained by a nitride film and, at the same time, a depletion layer whose size is proportional to the amount of the electric charge is formed inside the semiconductor substrate so that an image can be formed by an analogue change in the electrostatic capacity due to the depletion layer. CONSTITUTION:An optical image is formed on the surface of a recording medium which has been formed by laminating at least an oxide film 5, a nitride film 6 and a conductive layer 7, which is used to apply a prescribed voltage to the rear, on the surface of the semiconductor substrate 4; an electric charge 13 which has been excited by the light of the optical image at the semiconductor substrate 4 is accumulated between the nitride film 6 and the oxide film 5. At the same time, by making use of the state that a depletion layer 14 corresponding to the accumulated electric charge 13 is formed inside the semiconductor substrate 4, a latent image is formed. By this setup, because the latent image can be recorded directly two-dimensionally and in an analogue form by using a conventional optical photographing method, the latent image can be treated in the same manner as in the case of a conventional silver salt film; it is possible to obtain an extremely compact photographing device.
