Workpieces (10,11) are rigidly attached to a tube (1) by expanding the tube in the regions of contact with the bores of the workpiece. The tube is expanded by means of a tool (12) with sealing rings (13) arranged in pairs in the required positions. Each sealing ring groove is connected by a radial hole (12a) to an axial hole (12b) which is connected to a source of a high pressure medium. To ensure that the tube expansion pressure is restricted to the regions between the members of each pair of sealing rings, the regions between consecutive pairs of sealing rings are connected to a second axial hole (12c) which is open to the atmosphere.
