PURPOSE:To form a two-color image corresponding to original images at the rate of 1 to 1 and to obtain excellent reproducibility by exposing the images through a selected complementary color filter to a chromatic color, and a selected chromatic color filter. CONSTITUTION:The surface of an electrostatic latent image carrying drum 1 consisting of a transparent dielectric layer I, a photoconductor layer II and a conductor supporting layer III is uniformly charged 3 and destaticized 4 and image exposure 20 is executed through the complementary color filter 5 to a chromatic color and the chromatic color filter 6. The latent image is developed with chromatic color toner by developing devices 7a, 7b, the surface of the drum 1 is destaticized and then uniformly irradiated by light 10 to develop the image with black toner. In this case, exposure information in each chromatic color is stored, the pair of respective filters 5, 6 for a selected chromatic color is entered into an exposing optical path, the image is exposed, based on the selected exposure information and the exposed image is developed with the selected chromatic color toner.
