PURPOSE:To permit feeling of an extremely distinct color change by constituting an electrochromic material film of an electrochromic display element of a conductive high-polymer film contg. a white pigment. CONSTITUTION:This display element has the EC material film consisting of the conductive high-polymer film 23 contg. the white pigment on a transparent electrode 15. The conductive high-polymer film as the EC material film in this production process is formed by an electrolytic polymn. method using an electrolytic soln. contg. the white pigment. More specifically, the soln prepd. by dispersing the white pigment further into an electrolyte contg. a monomer to be polymerized and electrolyte is used as the electrolyte and the electrolytic polymn. is executed by using the electrode desired to be deposited with the conductive high-polymer film as an anode. As a result, the tint of the EC material at the time of non-display is extremely whitish as compared to the tint of the conventional element. A person who sees this EC element is, therefore, capable of viewing the display changing from the white tint to red or blow at the time of display and consequently, the viewer feels the extremely distinct color change.
