PURPOSE:To measure the shape of a cam without any frictional resistance by putting a measuring probe opposite the cam surface without contacting. CONSTITUTION:The cam 6 to be measured is fitted previously on a main shaft 15 by a chuck 16. Then, a feed motor 14 moves a feed table 9 forward in a feed direction to put a measurement position of the cam surface 6 opposite the measuring probe 6. In this state, a servomotor 17 rotates the main shaft 15 at a specific speed to put in the cam 6 in rotary motion. The angle of rotation at this time is detected by a shaft encoder 19 and sent as an indexing signal to a measuring instrument side. The measuring probe 3 operates a measuring sensor 22 during the rotation of this cam 6 to measure the shape of the cam surface 6a in the rotating direction continuously.
