PURPOSE:To obtain the titled aluminoxane useful as a solid catalyst for olefin polymerization, having a large specific surface area and a uniform particle size, by bringing a specific aluminoxane solution into contact with a sparingly soluble solvent. CONSTITUTION:A solution of an aluminoxane expressed by formula I (R represents 1-10C hydrocarbon group; m is 2-50) or formula II is brought into contact with an insoluble or sparingly soluble solvent for the aluminoxane (example; pentane, etc.), for example, in a ratio of 100-1,000pts.wt. the solvent to 100pts.wt. solution at -30--50 deg.C normally while stirring to afford the aimed aluminoxane of 5-200mum average particle diameter and 20-1,000m<2>/g specific surface area. The aimed aluminoxane may also be obtained, for example, by spraying the aluminoxane solution cocurrently with a high temperature inert gas using a spray dryer while maintaining the solution at a temperature of 5-50 deg.C lower than the boiling point of the solvent.
