The input and output fluid temp. to and from the boiler are sensed to find the difference temp. together with the flow rate of the fluid with the boiler operating. An incremental cost, of steam is found for a known time for actual sootblowing. From this, the cost of stream for footblowing is found. The boiler heat flux is found as the product flow rate, fluid specific heat and differential temp.. The two scaling parameters k,p are determined w.r.t. theta-b, the operating cycle period. The boiler includes several heat traps and optimum cycle times are found for each heat trap for optimum economic efficiency.
