PURPOSE:To make electric charge partly accumulated by a discharge shift to escape easily and effectively for neutralization, thus enabling high speed operation such as continuous rewriting or the like by forming a transparent conductive film on the surface opposed to the glass substrate of a glass cover. CONSTITUTION:AC pulse voltage is impressed between Y-electrode 3 and a write electrode 5 in order to start discharge. In this case, discharge starting voltage between X1-electrode 6 and Y-electrode 3 drops due to plasma junction so as to start discharge. Likewise, due to plasma junction a discharge spot is shifted in order of X2-electrode 7 X5-electrode 8 X4-electrode 9 X1-electrode 6 X2-electrode 7 by four-phase driving. And the shift is stopped in an appropriate position in order to perform display. When discharge is continuously shifted, electric charge is accumulated on the write side and the terminal side of shift. However, as a transparent conductive film 11 on a glass cover 2 is adjacent to the gas discharge region, the accumulated charge can be neutralized through plasma. |
