PURPOSE:To produce the polyhedron approximation data in a short time by providing a contour polygon approximation part and a polyhedron approximation part. CONSTITUTION:An object is photographed by a video camera 1 and this picture of the object is temporarily stored in a picture memory 2. Then a contour polygon approximation part 3 traces successively the picture contour and sends the apex data on a polygon to a polyhedron approximation part 4. The part 4 produces the triangle data defining the photographing position as its apex and a side of a contour approximation polygon as its bottom side from the photographing position data set previously for each picture and the apex data on the contour approximation polygon received successively. These triangle data are integrated within the part 4 for acquisition of the cone data defining the photographing position as its apex and the contour approximation polygon as its bottom surface. This cone data is defined as a first object approximation polyhedron data.
