PURPOSE:To contrive improvement in operational reliability by enhancing cooling efficiency by a method wherein a part of the airtight container, with which a change-over switch chamber will be formed, is constituted by a cooling panel in which a cooling medium is flowing. CONSTITUTION:The on-load tap changer consisting of the change-over switch 14, suspending from a transformer tank cover 13 together with a transformer main body 12, and a tap changer 15 is housed in the transformer tank 11 in which insulating gas is filled up. The switch 14 is supported by an insulated supporting pole 16 together with a selector 15, an annular cooling panel 17 is airtightly formed around the supporting pole 16 and the switch 14. The upper part of the cooling panel 17 is airtightly closed up with an insulating cylinder 18, and an airtightly closed change-over switch 19 is formed. The panel 17 is cooled by allowing a cooling medium 23 to flow by the pump 26 of the cooling device 25 provided outside the tank 11 through the intermediary of an insulated pipe 24. The device 25 is driven for the prescribed period by interlocking when a tap-changing operation is performed. Through these procedures, the operational reliability of the title tap changer can be improved by enhancing the cooling efficiency.
