PURPOSE:To simply obtain a silver image having the high density and sensitivity for short time, without using a solvent for silver halide usually used, by processing a silver halide photosensitive material with a medium contg. a silver ion and water and/or a hydrophilic thermal solvent in the presence of a compd. capable of effecting a complex forming reaction. CONSTITUTION:The image is formed by effecting a silver salt diffusion transfer treatment of a photographic material contg. the silver halide photosensitive material and an image receiving material in the presence of a reducing agent and a physical development nucleus. In case of forming the image as mentioned above, the photosensitive material is processed with the medium contg. the silver ion and water and/or the hydrophilic thermal solvent in the presence of the compd. capable of effecting the complex forming reaction. The used complex forming compd. is the compd. capable of forming the complex salt with the silver ion which shows >=1 value of the stability constant logK at pH9, 25 deg.C. Thus, the silver image having the high density and sensitivity is simply formed for the short period, and the controls of the processing machine and the processing solution make easy.
