PURPOSE:To evade the time-out of a first electronic equipment by transmitting the response data of a time prolonging request to a first electronic equipment if a processing time exceeds a time-out value previously specified in the first electronic equipment when a second electronic equipment execute a process corresponding to an instruction data from the first electronic equipment. CONSTITUTION:Receiving the instruction data from a card reader/writer 2, an IC card 1 calculates the time necessary for the process corresponding to the instruction data. Deciding whether or not the processing time exceeds the time-out value of the card reader/writer 2, the IC card transmits the response data which means the time prolonging request to the card reader/writer 2 when it decides that the processing time exceeds the time-out value. Thus, the time-out can be evaded and the IC card 1 can always execute the normal process to the end even if the processing time alters.
