PURPOSE:To exchange electron guns safely in a short time by providing a movable stand in a vacuum container, moving the same in any given direction freely by a drive mechanism and mounting a plurality of electron guns on the movable stand. CONSTITUTION:In case an electron gun 6 gets out of order, an isotope separator 1 can be restored to the normal operation only by actuating a drive mechanism 18, moving a movable stand 17 in a given direction and switching the electron gun to a spare electron gun 6 mounted adjacent on the movable stand 17. It is, therefore, not necessary to keep open the vacuum container 2, which reduces the frequency of discontinuing the operation and increases the working efficiency of the separator to a large extent. The vacuum container 2 is opened only when the service limit of all of a plurality of electron guns 6 is over and exchange of all the electron guns 6 can be carried out simultaneously, and the frequency of dealing with electron guns 6 contaminated by radiation substances is reduced compared with the methods heretofore available, which means to be useful from the viewpoint of preventing radiation.
