PURPOSE:To increase the wave breaking effect of a breakwater by forming an air chamber surrounded by an inclined waves breaking plate of an upward slope along the advancing direction of incoming waves and a vertical waves breaking plate set orthogonally to the advancing direction of incoming waves. CONSTITUTION:A breakwater is made up by connecting an inclined waves breaking plate 3 of an upward slope along the advancing direction of incoming waves and one side of a vertical waves breaking plate 4 set orthogonally to the advancing direction of incoming waves. The breakwater is held by a wire connected to anchors, etc., erectly set on the bottom ground under water in such a way that the joint of the plates 3 and 4 is projected from the water surface and an air chamber 5 surrounded by both the plates is formed on the water surface. The waves breaking effect can thus be raised by the action of the chamber 5, and waves of comparatively long wavelength can be broken by the action of the plate 4. The breakwater can also be set even in shallow water.
