PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound on an industrial scale at a low cost, by adding a primary amine and an alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride, etc., to a solution phase containing a nonpolar solvent forming azeotropic mixture with water, a Brensted acid and a specific amount of an organic amine under refluxing by heating. CONSTITUTION:A primary amine and an alpha,beta- unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride are heated and dehydrated to obtain the titled compound useful as an agent for improv ing heat-resistance of a thermoplastic resin such as polyvinyl chloride. In the above process, the above raw materials (amine and acid anhydride) or N-substituted-alpha,beta- unsaturated dicarboxylic acid monoamide which is an intermediate are supplied to a solution phase containing a nonpolar solvent forming an aqeotropic mixture with water, a Brensted acid (a catalyst) and 0.05-0.5 equivalent of an organic amine (based on said catalyst) under thermal refluxing. The separation and purification of the catalyst component and the objective compound can be facilitated and the formation of by-products can be suppressed. The objective compound having high purity and excellent color can be produced in high yield with simple operation using an inexpen sive solvent. |
