PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of a shearing machine for cutting a metal sheet and to enhance the quality of cutting by setting a pair of upper and lower knives in such a way that the knife gap may be always zero at a position to be sheared during shearing. CONSTITUTION:A vertical rake is set to the cutting edge of an upper knife 1, and is mounted on an upper knife mount bed 3 through the intermediary of a Belleville spring 2. A lower knife is secured on a lower knife mount bed 5. The upward inclined side end of the rake of the upper knife 1 is inclined toward the lower knife 4 n a plane orthogonal to the moving direction of the upper knife 1, and therefore, the entire upper knife 1 is forced toward the lower knife 4 by the Belleville spring 2, that is, it is forced so that the knife gap is set as, g1>0, g2>=0, and g3<0. In this condition, when the upper knife 1 is lowered, the opposing surfaces of the upper and lower knives 1, 4 are easily overlapped with each other, and shearing is initiated. Then the contacts point of the cutting edges of the knives 1, 4 which guide together, shear a metal sheet.
