PURPOSE:To perform the freezing of an image with original resolution by using the information of two fields which constitutes a frame, by displaying the images of both fields after attaching an offset by the share of moving the image in one field time on the displaying position of the field on one side out of two fields constituting the frame when a VTR reproduced animation is frozen. CONSTITUTION:A bit of picture information reproduced by a VTR1 is supplied to field memories 21 and 22, and is written at every odd field and even field separately corresponding to address designation from an address generator 3. At this time, a control signal is supplied to a terminal 6 to perform the freezing. In such a way, a prescribed quantity of offsets are added on the readout address in a horizontal direction of a bit of odd field information written on the field memory 21 at an offset adder 5. Therefore, the bit of odd field information is displayed being delayed by a bit of even field information, and it is possible to obtain a smooth circular image in which the bit of odd field information and the bit of even field information are connected.
