PURPOSE:To easily prepare a solid fuel-water slurry having a high concn. and a low viscosity on an industrial scale, by additionally adding a solid fuel and water to a water slurry of a solid fuel composed of coal or petroleum coke and wet-pulverizing the mixture in a particular manner. CONSTITUTION:A process for preparing a solid fuel-water slurry comprising a first step of preparing a water slurry of a solid fuel composed of coarsely ground coal or petroleum having a geometrical mean particle diameter of about 20mm or less and a second step of mixing the aforesaid solid fuel and water, or water and an additive and then wet-pulverizing the mixture, wherein the geometrical mean particle diameter of the particles in the slurry prepd. in the first step is 30-149mum, the geometrical mean diameter ratio (Rs) of the particles in the slurry prepd. in the first step to those prepd. in the second step is 0.8-4, the weight ratio (Rw) of the solid fuel fed in the first step to the one fed in the second step is 0.4-2.4, Rs/Rw is 1-3, and the wet pulverizer used in the second step is a ball mill having a ratio of a diameter corresponding to the effective mill section to an effective mill length of 6 or more.
